Saw Atomic Blonde last night and thought it was pretty god. Plot wise it’s not that special. It’s a pretty standard action/thriller/spy movie but what saves it is the visuals. It’s really strong as an aesthetic film with lots of vintage themed sets and lighting. The plot drags on in places and it definitely chooses style over substance but for a heavily stylized aesthetic film, it’s still pretty enjoyable. Charlize Theron was otherworldly in her aesthetic presentation and I really enjoyed James MacAvoy’s character. If you like gritty spy thrillers or really aesthetically driven stuff then this is a film you might enjoy. Even with a fairly average plot the actions scenes were exciting and well done as well as being visually pleasing and the over all style of the film is what you should be paying attention to. In all it’s a pretty good film for it’s genre and I enjoyed it, even when it lagged in favor of visuals.
